Clean energy in the District.
The District’s climate change and clean energy plans outlined in the Clean Energy DC Act set an aggressive goal of a carbon neutrality by 2050 and 100% renewable electricity by 2032. By 2041, 15% of that energy must come from solar energy generated in the District.
Carbon neutrality by 2050
Amount of renewable energy powering the District by 2032
Solar energy generated in the District by 2041
A reduction in District-wide energy use by 2032 relative to 2012 levels
This commitment demonstrates the District’s recognition of the growing threat of climate change, the scale of action needed to avoid significant impacts, and the advances in technology, markets, and policy tools that are enabling cities to accelerate action.
