Save money.

Understanding your energy options and potentially switching suppliers may help you lower your utility bills, but there are also several programs, initiatives and resources available to D.C. residents and business that can also help you save money.
Payment plans
A popular way for utility customers to save money is through payment plans. For electricity, Pepco offers an average payment plan program for assistance with keeping your bill affordable. The plan allows you to pay a fixed amount each month for the span of 12 months, meaning you’ll pay less than the actual monthly cost during high usage months and more during low usage months. Even if you choose this approach, it’s still in your interest to reduce your energy use to minimize costs.
Support for low-income customers
Low-income customers can apply for a discount on their electricity bill through the Residential Aid Discount Program offered by Pepco and for federal assistance through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), both of which are managed by the D.C. Department of Energy & Environment (DOEE). DOEE also offers other energy efficiency programs, including in-home installation of energy efficiency measures.
Renewable options
  • Solar For All, a program of the District Department of Energy & Environment, helps to bring the benefits of solar energy to 100,000 low- to moderate-income families in D.C.
  • Become an EPA Green Power Partner to ensure your renewable energy choice counts toward the District’s goal.
  • Small businesses can find ways to save energy and money through several programs and initiatives from the D.C. Sustainable Energy Utility.
